Electricity cost calculator

Choose an appliance or enter its wattage, then use the electricity rate from your bill.

These are example ratings only. Check the appliance label or manual and edit the wattage below.
This field remains editable after choosing an appliance.
Enter a value between 0 and 24.
Rates vary. Use the per-kWh rate shown on your bill.

Formula: (watts × hours per day ÷ 1,000) × electricity rate. Results are estimates and exclude fixed charges, taxes, changing rates, standby power, and equipment cycling.

How the calculation works

Electricity use in kilowatt-hours (kWh) equals watts multiplied by hours of use, divided by 1,000. Multiplying kWh by your rate in dollars per kWh gives an estimated energy cost. See the full assumptions on our Methodology page.

Find the numbers you need

  • Watts: Check the appliance label or manual. The dropdown provides editable example ratings only.
  • Hours per day: Enter the time the equipment actually draws power.
  • Electricity rate: Use the per-kWh rate on your bill. If your bill has several rates or fixed charges, the result is an approximation.

Frequently asked questions

Where can I find an appliance’s wattage?

Look for a label on the appliance, its power adapter, or the product manual. If the label gives volts and amps, consult the manufacturer’s documentation before choosing a wattage.

Which electricity rate should I enter?

Use the USD per kWh rate from your own bill. Rates vary by location, utility, plan, season, and time of use.

Why can actual cost differ?

Many appliances cycle on and off or change power while operating. Bills may also include fixed charges, taxes, demand charges, or changing rates that this calculator does not model.

Does the calculator store my entries?

No. The calculation runs in your browser and the values you enter are not sent to PowerPriceHub.
